Out with the Old is Energizing!

Some people like to relax when they have time off from the normal schedule and routines of life.

Not the Martino family!

Dan's company is basically shutdown the last 2 weeks of the year. Well... kind of. Outside of the random conference call or email response, he was pretty much truly *off*. Which was wonderful... because he has been working and traveling a lot. So, Dan had a few goals to accomplish over the break... including clearing junk and extra stuff from the garage that sort of moved with us because we didn't have the time to really go through it properly before the move. And, by go through it... I mean decide whether it was something we wanted to keep, toss or donate to goodwill.

I get SO excited when Dan is home with us for a full week. And, I get even more excited when he gets motivated to do something like this around the house. So, I couldn't just stand by and watch. I decided I was going to clean out and purge toys from the play room and kids' bedrooms, and my closet.

We did really well!

I started in the playroom and ended up gathering 4 garbage bags full of toys to donate to goodwill, and 1 garbage bag full of garbage (broken toys, toy parts, junk, etc.). Then, I was able to pull 3 garbage bags full of clothing from my closet to bring to goodwill.

Dan & I then sorted through all the stuff in the garage.

All in... we donated 3 truckloads full of stuff to goodwill (that includes the toys and clothes).

The garage is now organized! The playroom feels so clean! The kids didn't even realize anything was missing (obviously, I purged toys when Dan brought them on an errand!). And, my closet looks so much more organized and fresh. Love it!!

I don't know why... but I truly LOVE removing the clutter from my home! Dan thinks I'm crazy.

I think it energizes me too... because in addition to doing all this organizing and purging... I logged 43 miles of running for the week. I haven't done one week of dedicated running training this entire year... it's just been a crazy, unpredictable year for us as a family with so much change. So, to actually log 40 miles and end the year strong felt GREAT!

I think he just wants any cool weapons that Rocco has. Seriously... he's such a funny little boy. Went straight from infant toys to 5 year old boy toys. :)) I know Santa has some appropriate gifts for the little man though!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas!

While the holidays are always a little bit of a rough spot for us since having lost Matteo, we still somehow find a way to muster up the strength to keep the traditions and festive celebrations in the forefront of our children's minds and memories this time of year. However, our hearts go out to all of those who have lost someone near and dear this year... we can relate to your sadness and/or struggles.

May your hearts and homes be forever full of love and joy and peace.

xoxo

A Plan to Capture S.anta

The kids devised a plan to capture S.anta Claus...

Dan and I found them all huddled together in a room, talking loudly with lots of excitement. When we asked what they were doing (we knew they were up to something)... they told us they had come up with a great plan to capture Santa.

How awesome is that?!

A couple days later... Giuliana drew the plan out on paper for us.

Annual S.anta photo.

It would not be a Martino family tradition if at least one child was not crying. Marco did well in keeping with tradition this year.

Stepstools & Ladders

There it goes again... the sound of a small children's chair being pushed, slowly but surely, across the wood floor. It lasts about 45 seconds until it reaches the final destination. Then, little Marco slowly but surely climbs up onto the chair and reaches up to open the cabinet and pull out his goldfish crackers.

Not even 5 mintues later, he is pushing the chair over from the cabinet to the kitchen island where I am making sandwiches for the kids. He's reaching up onto the couter trying to grab at anything and everything possible and I'm telling him "no"... to which he replies back "NO!"

The smallest child has discovered the usefulness of a stepstool.

Oy!

We had a few contractors in and out last week, and they had ladders with them. Do I even need to write about how we found Marco attempting to climb the ladders on more than one occasion. He was enthralled by them.

Fast forward one week, and he's constantly dragging or pushing the little kiddie chairs around the main level of our home to get access to all the things he can't reach without the chair.

When I was cooking dinner, he was watching me turn on one of the ovens that is elevated and mounted in the wall. Not even 5 minutes later... the child has the chair sitting there and he's flipping the dials. Never mind the fact that he already flips all the dials on the ovens and stove that sit at his reach level just a few feet away.

His daddy is going to go nuts when he sees him dragging and pushing those little chairs across the wood floors. I have tried to tell Marco not to do it. I've carried the chairs back to the table hundreds of times now, only resulting in a crying Marco and him running right over to the chairs to drag it back to the destination of choice. But honestly, when Dan is gone... I literally don't have time to fight this battle.

Such a little rascal!

Hopefully... when Dan arrives back home, he'll want to fight this battle and train Marco not to do this anymore.

Snowfreakingflakes

My two oldest children learned to make snowflakes in school over the past two weeks. For some unknown reason, they decided to teach the third oldest child how to make snowflakes over the weekend, while my husband was in Las Vegas for work (riiiiiiiiiight!).

I kid you not... I had three children making snowflakes faster than Buddy the Elf. There were paper scraps everywhere. EVERY WHERE.

EVERY. FREAKING. WHERE.

Paper scraps covered the table, the countertop, the floor under the table, the floor under the counter... they migrated over to the sofa.... there was a trail from the sofa to the table to the counter. Paper scraps were falling out of blankets, out of play kitchen toys... I even found them in kitchen drawers.

It is AMAZING what can happen when you try to give your toddler a quiet bath and leave the older kids to keep themselves entertained.

Sweet Moses.

I guess I should be thankful they were making snowflakes instead of pulling each other's hair out.

But, by the time I got them in bed and looked around (exhausted... and after a very long weekend w/daddy being gone)... I wanted to cry paper scraps!!

But nope... I just picked them all up.

Only to wake up Monday morning and find that child #2 has already been awake for 45 minutes and was on snowflake #52.

ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Paper scraps EVERY WHERE... AGAIN!!!

Is it awful that I was bursting with joy to drop them off at school Monday morning?!

House No Longer DREAMY

Marco tried climbing the girls' B.arbie D.reamhouse. You know... the giant 3 story house that clearly looks like something a 19 month old should try and scale like a superhero.

Well... this expedition did not end well for Marco or the D.reamhouse. Barbie's house is no longer dreamy. And, Marco got 3 nice little scrapes and bumps on his head. Ouch!

Poor little guy!

Giuliana was not pleased with what looked like a tornado hit the D.reamhouse.

I tried explaining to her that perhaps B.arbie should have invested in natural disaster insurance.

That didn't go over so well.

Gabby Makes USAG L3 Compulsory Team

Gabby had just been told she was promoted to move up to the USAG L3 compulsory team approximately one month before our move to CA. I knew how excited she was about this, and how important gymnastics was to her, so I started the scramble to find a gym that had a competitive program like the gym she was enrolled at in Washington. There were a few options, and we let her try a class at each gym with the level 3’s so she could tell me which gym she felt was the best fit. The bummer about transferring to CA from WA, is that in California, the competition season for L3’s begins at the end of August and ends in November. In Washington, the L3’s compete December - February. So, all the CA girls had been practicing the L3 skills and routines for months. There was not way she’d be able to transfer right onto the team here. She would have to tryout in December at open tryouts.

Gabby was obviously devastated to learn that she wouldn’t be able to compete this year, and it broke my heart to hear her cry. But, I tried to spin it to her that this would just allow her the time to perfect her skills and blow everyone away when she would tryout in December.

So, it was a bit of a rough start, as we had to initially sign her up in CA for a recreational gymnastics class. She was used to doing gymnastics 6 hours a week. So, attending one 1.5 hour class a week just wasn’t going to cut it for her. She was insistent on signing up for several back to back classes, which basically put her up to 6 hours of practice a week.

And, in all honesty, knowing that the L3’s practice 9 hours a week… I selfishly wasn’t ready to have her at the gym for that long each week. And, I felt that having just moved and starting at a new school, 9 hours or practice a week would be a bit much with all the transition and change.

She did get a little bored with the recreational classes, and she definitely missed the camaraderie of her teammates and being on a team in general. But, she also agreed that she was going to do great come December’s tryouts.

Tryouts for L3 were the first week of December, and my baby girl nailed each and every skill. I was very proud FOR her and of her. She was ecstatic and new she did well at the tryouts, so it was no surprise when she was extended the L3 invitation.

She started practicing 9 hrs/week with her new teammates the first week of January, and she was thrilled.

SNOW!

Last night around 11:15pm, I looked out the window anticipating the *big snow storm* that had been forecasted for our area. Sure enough... it was snowing!

It's unusual for it to snow where we live right now. I guess the last time it snowed was 5 years ago.

It was so exciting, I actually entertained the idea of waking up Rocco and Gabby to let them watch the big flakes falling from the sky. But, I didn't... I feared them not going back to bed and wanting to just watch it snow as long as their little eyes would allow them.

My kids were SO excited when they woke up and saw snow on the ground! There wasn't a lot... but, there were random patches of snow that looked to be almost 2 inches deep in some spots. Apparently, it was not enough to warrant the "Mom/Dad, can we go out and play in the snow?" question... as not even one child asked. And, it was gone by the end of the day. But, it was very exciting nonetheless.

Last winter, it snowed a few times where we lived in WA. But, the snow only piled up and stayed on the ground for 8 hours on one of those days. Other than that, we had to drive to the mountains to see and play in the snow.

The winter before that, we had several big snow storms... one that resulted in about 6-8 inches of snow that stuck around for approximately 10 days. The other winter storms that year brought about 2-4 inches of snow, forcing us to do a bit of shoveling and allowing the kids to play, but it usually disappeared within 24-48 hours.

Snow is always VERY exciting to my kids! And, I love to watch it fall and pile up. But, in all honesty, I prefer the option to *visit* snow when I choose, versus dealing with it on an every day basis. :))

COOOOOLD in Califo.rnia!

I was at the grocery store tonight and it seemed sort of busy for a Tuesday night. I mentioned it in light conversation to the young lady checking me out. (She was probably 18 years old or so.) This mention of weather suddenly got her animated and all fired up. She explained to me how the weather forecast for the next week was SUPER cold, hence the busy grocery store. She said people were stocking up on everything because they wouldn't want to leave their homes for a few days.

This REALLY gave me an internal chuckle! Externally, I couldn't help but agree with her... "Right! It is SO cold outside." I didn't want to seem rude. Then, I walked outside and felt the 48 degree chill in the air. Brrrr... cold. Right?!

I grew up in Minnesota. In the Midwest, it's no secret that temperatures hit below zero during the winter months. Sometimes, for multiple days in a row. It's the kind of weather where you walk outside and your eyelashes freeze together. It can hurt to breathe. You don't dare where mascara, because the second you walk indoors, your eyelashes thaw and mascara runs down your cheeks making you look like a clown. Now THAT, my friends... is COLD WEATHER!

Meanwhile... even in those frigid temps, the kids will be out building forts in the snow, or going to school. Moms will be running their errands and bringing kids to activities. Life just doesn't stop.

But, here in the area of CA where the weather is 80 degrees or more for 8 months of the year, and in the high 90's or 100's for 4 -5 of those months... 48 is COLD, *don't go to the grocery store if you can help it* weather. I find this highly entertaining, having MN roots.

In all honesty though... while I do get laughs from this. I CAN relate on some level. When we moved back to CA, it was 100+ every day for the first month. By the time the daily high was in the low 80's or 70's during October, we were all sort of bundling up in sweatshirts and U.ggs. Giuliana actually started going everywhere in a sweater and U.ggs during the month of October. You'd never guess she lived in WA for the past 2.75 years.

It's actually pretty incredible how quickly the body acclimates to your climate, whether it's hot or cold. And, having lived in various climates, it can definitely result in some pretty funny weather related observations and discussions.

Writing her teacher a letter...

Giuliana told me she needed paper. She was going to write a letter to her teacher.

So, I got her some paper, markers and crayons. She seemed very serious about this mission and I was excited that she was attempting to write her teacher a letter.

I decided to ask her "What are you going to write to your teacher about?"

And, in her very serious, matter-of-fact voice... she proceeds to tell me "I am going to tell her that she has boy hair."

What? Are you kidding me?!

After my silent internal giggle... I of course went into parenting mode to remind her both girls and boys can have short hair OR long hair. And, we know lots of girls and ladies with short hair. And, we know some boys with long hair.

She seemed to be quite skeptical of the discussion. :))

Marco & Choo Choos

Marco LOVES choo choo trains! I think his two favorite things might just be Rocco and choo choo trains.

He loves yelling "All ABOARD!".

So much in fact... that whenever he gets excited about something he'll yell "ALL ABOARD!!"

It's pretty funny.

This train excitement started with the show "D.inosaur Train". He loves the first 3 minutes of the show... then just wants you to rewind to the beginning again so he can hear the dinosaur train conductor yell "All Aboard!".

So, while we were in our old neighborhood for Thanksgiving... we decided to take him on our favorite train ride at the local park. He LOVED it. We practically had to rip him off the train when our ride was over. Needless to say... we rode it several times while their for the holiday. :)

Still here! We've been busy!

***UPDATE: I am slowly catching up on my blog post to do list. I will link the items below as I create and publish the blog posts.***

--------
I am SO GUILTY of neglecting the blog!!

I haven't written a blog post in months. Seven months to be exact.

I would love to say the reason is because I have just been lazy. Honestly, I would LOVE to be lazy. LOVE. LAZY!

However, the reason is the absolute opposite.

Since that last blog post in April, so much has happened. We have...
* put our house up for sale ourselves; sold it two months later
* had my parents visit for a few days
* Marco's extreme love of the vacuum
* watched Rocco play Little League baseball
* celebrated Marco turning ONE!
* celebrated me turning 38 (crazy!)
* my mom began her battle with breast cancer
* I achieved a new half marathon PR (1:47:03) at my first race since having Marco, and placed 4th for my age division, 44th overall. All with no formal training plan.
* Giuliana went on her very first sleepover
* Gabby said goodbye to so many good friends at her last day of school in WA.
* Rocco graduated from pre-K
* Gabby started doing round-off back handsprings
* I had the wind knocked out of me when another mother, who had also lost one of her twin sons during his sleep (so similar to how we lost Matteo), contacted me. We have since corresponded countless times and will obviously have a lifelong connection.
* I got bit by a dog on my butt while finishing an 11 mile run w/a neighbor/friend.
* vacationed to MN and saw lots of family and friends
* crossed the 4th anniversary of Matteo's death
* Celebrated 11 years of marriage by taking the kids to a theme park for the day. It was exhausting. I would not recommend this for an anniversary celebration.
* Gabby attended some very cool summer camps.
* I cracked a tooth in July (and didn't get it fixed until mid-September!) while dealing w/the stress of packing.
* Said goodbye to some very, very special friends in WA who we will miss dearly, but will forever be a part of our lives.
* In 2 weeks we moved our family of 6 out of a house, drove 800 miles, spent 11 nights in 6 different hotels, had 2 kids with croup & 1 w/ear infection, 1 midnight ER visit, toured new school, started new activities, and moved into a temp apartment while house is being completed. Exhausted yet? I was & am still recovering I think!!
* Spent a magical night and day in Canon Beach, OR on our road trip to CA.
* I attended my 20 year high school reunion in MN.
* Gabby and Rocco started school in CA.
* Gabby started gymnastics at a new gym, hip hop dance, and swimming.
* Giuliana started tap and ballet, gymnastics, and swimming.
* Rocco started Karate and swimming.
* We hit Tahoe for a weekend of playing on the beach, swimming, and paddle boarding.
* Vacationed in Santa Cruz and Los Gatos over Labor Day weekend.
* Rocco, Gabby and I ran in a school sponsored race. They ran their very first 1 mile race, and did SO great! I ran the 6K and placed 5th overall and 2nd for my age division.
* We moved into our new home!
* I ran the Lake Tahoe half marathon and placed 3rd in my age division, 38th overall and made the Top 25 Women's list.
* Giuliana started preschool.
* Rocco busted for eating double lunches at school
* Celebrated Halloween with a devil, pirate, lion, and a monkey.
* Marco and Giuliana's 1st college football game
* Marco turned 18 months
* Giuliana's 1st hair cut
* Signed up for the Malibu half marathon and didn't get to run it. Lucky me... I spent the day before the race in bed with a nasty tummy bug.
* Gabby turned 8 years old

So yeah.... we've been a little busy. However, I'm finally starting to get caught up on some aspects of life. Photos and blogging have been on the back burner for a long time... slowly and surely, I'll get caught up. Hoping to post about each of the above items soon and I'll link as I complete them.

I am a nut for archiving our family's milestones, funny stories/memories, and life events. I guess because of Matteo. After he died, I was SO THANKFUL I had taken the time to journal so much of his life, because now in a way that is all I have left of him... the memories.

So... stay tuned! Updates coming! And, hopefully I will soon get back on track with my once weekly blog post, if not more frequently.

Also... I am contemplating going private with this blog. Still undecided for the moment.

Giuliana's 1st Hair Cut!

When Dan and I think of Giuliana, one of our first thoughts is always admittedly her long, blondish, curly hair. When wet (and subsequently straight)... it was stretching down to the bottom of her butt cheeks. When dry however, it was hitting the middle of her back.

Her hair was gorgeous after it dried after a bath. But, it was getting to the point that it was hard to manage after she had slept on it, or a day of running wild at the park. LOTS of tangles... because the ends were all of that fine baby hair.

I had been holding off for a while for several reasons. I wasn't quite ready to cut it (mentally - it would be like cutting my little Giuliana!). Secondly, she was very much opposed to cutting it. Every time I would broach the subject, she would respond with a fake cry and say "I don't want you to cut my hair!". And, lastly... Dan didn't want me to cut it. Ugh!

Finally though... we had hit a point where it just needed to be cut! So, I planned to have it cut just after we had family photos taken. I had prepped Giuliana and Dan... telling them both we'd cut it after family pictures and that it would make combing her hair so much easier and it wouldn't hurt anymore. They both seemed on board (but perhaps a bit in denial).

After our family photos were taken... I took Giuliana into my bathroom and put her gorgeous curls in a ponytail with one of her purple (her favorite color) hair binders. I wanted to preserve a good amount of her beautiful, perfect curls. And then I put the scissors to her hair... and cut.

And... holy shit. What. Did. I. Just. Do!!

My heart skipped a beat. Ugh! I cut WAY more than I had planned... and OHMYGOSHWHATTHEHECKDIDIJUSTDO?!?!?

Giuliana was playing with a little pony while I was cutting... and immediately after I clipped the hair... she looked at her hair and started bawling. Like BAWLING!! I wanted to start bawling!! SWEET MOSES.... I felt like the worst mom in the world!

I held her and kept telling her how her hair wouldn't hurt her anymore, and how beautiful it looked, and that she looked so grownup now... but she wasn't having any of it. She cried hard for about a half hour... and then continued light crying and the cry hiccups for about another hour and a half.

Dan arrived home a half hour after I cut her hair and I thought he was going to fall into bawling hysterics too. OY!! I was already feeling guilty enough... and then he was SO SAD and kept saying "You CUT her HAIR?! What happened to my little Giuliana who was all leggys and hair?" (Dan always says to Giuliana "You're all leggys and hair!")

Jeesh!! Killin' me!

Two days later, I had a professional trim up the ends (because L.ord knows I'm not talented in the hair cutting department). Giuliana enjoyed that experience, but again got pretty sad when we were leaving saying "You cut my hair... why did you cut my hair?" accompanied by the sad sniffles and again on the verge of crying. I had to keep telling her how fancy she looks now, and how everyone thinks her hair cut is SO BEAUTIFUL!!

And, honestly...it REALLY IS just beautiful! She looks DARLING with the short hair... and it has even grown on Dan now too.

Giuliana, however, is still a bit sad about her hair not being long anymore. But, she does know she can grow it out again and that it is growing longer every single day.

She also is very much enjoying all the "your hair is so fancy and/or beautiful!" compliments she has been getting. :)

Marco's 18 Month Update (stop the clock!)

I can not believe Marco is 18 months. It is unbelievable to me.

I find myself holding onto him at every opportunity... almost in disbelief that he has crossed this major milestone, and wanting to freeze time completely. 18 months has always been my favorite age with my babies... and Marco reinforces that every single day lately. He is communicating so much more, exploring every aspect of his world with every opportunity, and he is constantly showing his love for his family members. He melts my heart constantly and completely.

Marco's 18 month Growth Stats:
Height: 33 1/4 inches (75th %ile)
Weight: 22lbs 15 oz (30th %ile)
Head: 19 1/4 (85th %ile)

Eating: Marco loves to eat. LOVES to eat. Like, really... LOVES to eat. He is truly his father's son! This boy would eat from sun up to sun down if you let him. And, he'll eat anything and everything yo put in front of him. Some of his breakfast favorites are eggs, bsausage, lueberries, banana, oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, blueberry or poppyseed muffins, and bacon. Some of his other favorite foods for lunch or dinner include pizza, tomato soup, homemade butternut squash soup, chili, chicken, steak, salmon, hot dogs with ketchup, ham, turkey, avocadoes, LOVES edamame and peas, carrots, strawberries, raspberries, apples, kiwi. If you give him a corn dog... he will carefully remove the cornbread and just eat the hot dog. He is so stinkin' cute! He LOVES wild rice mixed with feta cheese and avocado (something I love to eat a lot of). He is always jumping into my lap to eat whatever is on my plate, or he'll hijack his brother or sisters plates that are sitting on the table and try a bit of whatever is sitting there. He will bust open the pantry to find his favorite Prin.gles chips, or the organic fruit & vegi packages that you can squeeze into your mouth (Dan calls them spaceman food packets), or dried fruit strips. For snacks he is loving string cheese, yogurt any sort of crackers or cookies, raisins...pretty much anything. There have not been too many foods he doesn't like... but if he is not hungry or doesn't like something he will most certainly spit it out immediately.

Naps: On a perfect day, I am able to put Marco down for a nap between 11-11:30am, and he will sleep until 1:30pm. I love those days and so does he! He will sometimes even nap for 3 hours... it is rare, but it does happen. The perfect nap days are the best... but, as a mom of 4 kids with a husband who travels 2-4 days a week, that perfect day does not happen as much as I would like it to. There are various reasons why, including the fact that Marco is sometimes tired and ready for his nap in the 10am hour... which is great, except 3 days a week when I have to pick Giuliana up from preschool at 11:15am. Poor little Marco will fall asleep in the car if he's tired on those days, and on most occasions I am able to transfer him to the bed without waking him. But on the days the transfer doesn't work... his nap just gets cut short. Also, sometimes those pesky pediatrician apt's for one of the kids will completely mess with our morning schedule, amongst other things. And, sometimes... if he isn't tired in the 10 o'clock hour, I will put him and Giuliana in the stroller after I pick her up from preschool and let him nap while I run before picking the big kids up from school. Oh, and it is rare... but he has also gone down for late naps... which is always a bummer, because I have to leave our house around 1:55pm to pick the big kids up from school, which means I'll have to wake him up from his nap. Sometimes, it is SO HARD being the baby of the family.
Night Sleep: Marco's nightly bedtime is between 8-8:15pm. And, yes... he sleeps through the night most often. If he doesn't, it's because he wakes up crying with either teething pain or an ear infection... and if it's teething pain, I am able to put him back to sleep quite easily by just shushing him. Ear infection nights usually mean no sleep for him or I (thankfully, there haven't been too many!). After we put the big kids in bed, we'll put Marco's night time diaper and pajamas on, then brush his teeth. We'll get his favorite brown blanket and sometimes his water sippy cup or a stuffed animal and jump into my bed. Since we have had a crazy few months of transitions between homes, he is currently sleeping in our bed (lucky little fella!). He was doing SO great sleeping in the crib, and even putting himself to sleep, prior to us moving out of our house in WA mid-July. Moving out of the home meant messing with his routine and everything that was familiar...and spending almost 2 weeks in different residence inns and hotels, and then moving into a temporary apartment while waiting for our home to be completed, just added to his confusion. His comfort became sleeping in bed with me/us. So, that is where he remains for now. And, I admittedly LOVE it. But, I also have issue with it as well for various reasons.

Marco Updates:
* He is giving gentle kisses. He has many tender moments throughout the day when he will lean in and give me a kiss. Or, he'll kiss his brother or sisters when they do something nice for him. It's the sweetest, gentlest little kiss. He leans in slowly... and presses those puckered little lips so softly against mine... I can feel it just thinking about it. He will sometimes even wake me up in the morning by doing this and it just melts my heart completely.

* 12 teeth in his mouth already! This makes me want to cry!

* Loves to run around with his siblings, and play chase inside the house and outside. Loves to go to the park. Is perfectly capable of climbing playground stairs and going down all the various slides. He loves riding on little cars that you push with your feet. He loves going in the stroller for walks and runs. But, if he sees his siblings out running or biking with his... he wants to be doing the same and will protest a bit if we try to buckle him in the stroller.

* He can put on his croc shoes all by himself. And, if he has a hard time, he will get really frustrated. When he wants to go outside... he will run and grab his shoes and carry them around or put them on. If a bunch of people leave the house without him... he will cry so hard (it makes me want to cry!).

* He loves to watch me get ready in the morning and will do whatever I do... so if I put deodorant on, he will try to do it, or will try to put it on me. If I comb my hair, he will do it to himself or me.

* He loves going to the potty chair with people and will sit on his chair and grunt as if he is pooping. He also loves to pull toilet paper out and try to help people wipe their bottoms... so we really have to regulate him with his bathroom appearances! :)

* Words: Mama, Dada, Uh oh!, Nana (for Giuliana), Babby (for Gabby), Occo (for Rocco), Woof Woof (for doggy), Wawa (for water), ore (for more), All Aboard! (which he will yell when his favorite show, Dino.saur Train, comes on), good job, hot dog, no, shhhhh (while putting finger to his lip), nigh nigh (for night night), indow (for window... he loves when we roll his car window down), hoppy birdu (for happy birthday... he loves singing Happy Birthday song with us!).

* Favorite treats: M.&M's, Ki.tKats (thanks Halloween)

* He has also discovered ketchup, thanks to Rocco. He loves it!

* He loves putting crackers between his toes when we are driving in the car. He's like a little monkey when he does it and he'll squeal with delight and cackle because we all laugh and giggle and ask him if he's a monkey.

* Body parts he can point to when asked where it is: Belly Button, ears, nose, feet, toes, eyes, hair, tummy.

* When he is angry with you or made about something, he will scream and either stomp his foot or throw his hand at you in a hitting motion... and then he'll look at you with squinted eyes and a grumpy face. Like a grumpy little old man!!

* He has discovered books... he LOVES books. He loves being read to and loves looking through picture books on his own as well. If he hears someone reading... he will run to them and jump into their lap to listen and see the story being read. It's sooo cute!

* He is in a stage of wanting to do everything by himself. He feeds himself ice cream, yogurt, soup. Will demand silverware by screaming and pointing at the drawer it is stored in. He loves to try and drink out of water bottles or big kid cups (which results in a spill 50% of the time). He will run and grab cups or plates or food from the pantry when/if he wants something. If you try and help him he will scream at you. Baby boy is growing up! [sniff sniff]

* He has a love for Rocco that I can not fully describe. He thinks Rocco is the coolest, best, most awesome person on the planet. And, Rocco is SO GOOD with him. Rocco is the best of the kids for warning me if he sees Marco with something he shouldn't have or shouldn't be doing. Rocco loves Marco so much too - it is just precious, the bond these two have already. They are often found wrestling playfully, playing cars together, transformers... Marco is constantly mimicking whatever type of play Rocco is doing. So, if Rocco is blowing up his army guys... Marco is doing the same thing. If Rocco is playing Legos or building stuff w/blocks, Marco is right there with him, sound effects and all. At night when we put Rocco to bed, Marco will get next to Rocco and pretend to go night-night with Rocco. And, they kiss and hug each other each night before bed. It's SO cute.

* Loves to swim! When we take him swimming, he is literally jumping out of our arms the entire time we're in the pool to go under water. He even is swimming up the surface a bit on his own now. He jumps under water and loves to look at his siblings under water with him. We are going to have to watch this guy like a hawk around water... he has no fear whatsoever. It's awesome... but scary. I will have to post a video of his swimming escapades!

* Loves playing in the sand. He has enjoyed every beach we've ever been on and is almost calmed w/the sounds and the constant distraction and curiosity he has for the sand.

* Nicknames: Bear, Boo Boo, Marco moo.

* Loves wearing baseball hats backwards on his head. Loves also trying on the girls hats and wearing them. He has also been known to try on Nana's play high heels. ha!

* Favorite toys: pretend vacuum, Legos, blocks, small animals, guns & swords that Rocco plays with, stuffed animals (tiger, bears and dogs are his favorite).

* LOVES the vacuum, and the blow dryer. If he sees the vacuum.... you might as well spend the whole day vacuuming because he is VERY upset each time you stop.

* Gabby is a great helper with Marco too. Marco LOVES when Gabby reads to her. If she picks up a book... Marco will run over to her and jump on her lap and listen so intently to the entire story. Often times, he will even bring Gabby a book. Gabby also loves to include Marco in some of the make-believe play that she organizes for the kids... like house, or horse farm. Marco loves being included... but he does botch things a lot which can also frustrate the 8 year old! :) Gabby's motherly nurturing insticts definitely kick in though... she loves holding him and carrying him around on her hip. He will often hug her and rest his head on her shoulder and take advantage of the extra love he's getting from his big sis. But, he also knows that I often ask her to grab something he has (if he shouldn't have it or whatever), so he is quick to yell "NO!" at her too... which makes us all laugh.

* He loves being Dan's apprentice when Dan is working with tools. He'll go find the pretend tools and work right along with Dan (literally getting between Dan's face and what he is trying to look at). It's hilarious!

* He is often pretending to be a doggy (or woof woof, as he calls it), or a kitty and will make woof sounds and cuddle up against your legs while on all 4's. So, we pick him up and kiss him and make the animal sounds right back and he loves that.

* He loves when I give Rocco his inhaler medicine. He will mimic Rocco's exaggerated, rhythmic breathing pattern while sort of bouncing up and down w/knees bent and straight so it coincides w/the breathing pattern. All the while, he has a big smile on his face and he's breathing loudly. Rocco finds this hilarious. Marco will even point to the cabinet where the medicine is up high and do that mimic sound and motion because he knows that's where the medicine is.

* Giuliana and Marco have a super cute relationship. It's either all love or frustration. One minute, they will be holding hands, snuggling, or petting each other's heads. The next second, they are pulling hair and/or one of them is screaming at the other for something they want to have or because the other child took something they had. It makes me laugh and it also can make me crazy! But, they totally love each other madly!

* Dino.saur Train is his favorite TV show so far. He just likes the start of it... the theme song, and loves yelling "All Aboard!" like they do at the start. He will dance to the theme song as it plays. When that is over, sometimes he'll watch the show, but most often, he just wants you to rewind it to the start again. When in the car, he LOVEs watching Li.ttle E.insteins and will even clap and dance to that as well.

* He LOVES his dada! Sometimes when Dan gets home from a trip though... he will not recognize him or be scared of him for a few hours and be very clingy with me. Or, he will run screaming to me when Dan comes in the door. Poor baby! But, once Dan is with us for a half hour... Marco is all over him again wanting hugs and wrestles.

* I just love my time to snuggle, cuddle and love on the little guy. I wish I could just hold time still for a while and enjoy him even more than I already do. There is just never enough time in the day! Love him SO, SO, INCREDIBLY MUCH. He had brought so much joy to our lives and I could not love anything more. xoxo

A.pple's New Test Team

A.pple really needs to hire THIS family to do product testing!

Seriously.

In the past year alone:
* I washed Gabby's iT.ouch by accident (in the washing macine). It was in her coat pocket.
* Marco tossed an i.Pad into a full bath tub of water
* One week after that, Marco threw Gabby's iT.ouch over a ledge onto the stone floor. The screen shattered.
* While holding Marco with one hand, I dropped an iP.ad on cement when he slapped at my hand that was holding it. Screen shattered.
* Giuliana threw up all over an iPa.d
* My iPod has been dropped a million times while on runs.
* My iPhone has been dropped, tossed, thrown, spilled on, spit-up on, etc.

Surprisingly and technically, our only iproduct casualty to date has been Gabby's 1st iT.ouch. And, I think that was a result of me not properly trying to revive it. After it went through the washing machine, I tried to turn it on numerous times before burying it in rice. Then, when it was in the rice bath... I would pull it out several times a day, power it on and see how/if it was working. I should have never turned it on and I should have just left it. Why? Well... read the next paragraph.

After Marco tossed the iP.ad in the bath tub, and it subsequently sat there for approximately 7 minutes... I immeidiately dried it off and buried it in a container full of rice. I left it there for 10 days... never once trying to turn it on or even checking it. When I finally checked it on day 10, it powered on like nothing ever happened and works perfectly! No data loss even! Woot!

When Gabby's iT.ouch screen shattered, A.pple let us essentially trade it in for a new one for $100.

The puke on the i.Pad shockingly did not do any damage...even though I know it got in a few dangerous spots. Gross, I know.

We have not yet attempted to replace/trade-in the iPa.d w/the shattered screen. Not sure why. Probably because all of this iS.hit is just exhausting me quite frankly. HA!!

My phone has lost some volume/sound functions (probably from water damage)...and I'll have to replace and upgrade at some point in the near future.

App.le should just freaking hire THIS family for product testing. Or at least commercial inspiration, right?!

Writing her name

At preschool, some of the kids are able to write their names on their art projects and homework sheets. Unfortunately, Giuliana doesn't have the luxury of a 4 letter name! Her name is long, and a bit confusing. Poor baby! So, her teachers write her name on all of her art and work sheets.

I've contemplated having her go by her nickname at school, which she actually created for herself 2.5 years ago ("Nana"). It would be a much easier option for her to use, and maybe she'd try writing her name on paperwork more often then.

I was SO proud of Giuliana when she finally attempted to write her own name. Quite successfully too! She asked me to write her name on the paper first (the blue hand writing at top center in this pic)... and then she tried to copy it (the pink off to the right).

She is getting more and more interested in practicing her letter writing and is often found writing random letters. Then, she'll come running over to us with her work and ask "what does it say, mommy?"

AZ @ CAL

Giuliana and Marco have now attended their first college football game.

The weather could not have been more perfect... 70 and sunny. And, I loved finally being able to walk the Cal B.erkeley campus... it's beautiful.

In true Martino fashion, we had spent about $30 on random sugar-stuff. Frozen lemonade, icees... you name it, we bought several. Finally, at half time, we upgraded to the fried-stuff... fries, chips, pretzels and hot dogs.

Our kids think a football stadium is one gigantic concession stand.

At least Gabby learned to read the score board. Well, and I guess the other *win* of the night was that Rocco and Gabby even cheered AZ on a bit. Other than that, the kids loved the band. Gabby enjoyed watching the cheerleaders. Rocco and Marco and Giuliana loved jumping/climbing around on the bleachers. And, Dan was thrilled because Arizona won.... WOOT!

H.alloween finish line...

I love Halloween... I really do!

But, this year, I found myself crawling across the H.alloween finish line at month's end. Moving into our new house at the beginning of the month probably had a significant impact on my exhaustion level. But, I found myself not being able to keep up with all of the various Halloween related events and volunteer situations that go hand-in-hand with having 2 kids in elementary school and one in preschool.

The H.alloween to-do list included:
* Decide costumes and actually purchase them. I know this doesn't sound like a big item, but it becomes an issue when you're so tired from unpacking that every night you forget to ask your kids what they want to be. And, when you finally remember to ask them... you then have to find time to actually place the order online. When you're exhausted at the end of every day from unpacking and organizing and your husband is traveling 4 days a week... the last thing you think to do before bed every night is ordering costumes. So, of course I end up placing a rush-delivery costume order at the 11th hour! Ugh!

* H.arvest Festival event at elementary school. It's one of the school's biggest fundraisers. So, you know... parents are asked to either donate items in the weeks prior and/or your time at the event. And, the day before the event... you find out your kindergartner is supposed to perform at the event. Oh, and the kids are supposed to wear their costumes (you know... the costumes that haven't arrived yet because you suck and just ordered them last night). And, then you go spend loads of money on games and sugar and other crap food that just makes your kids get all fired up and crazy and you come home exhausted and looking at the clock in disbelief that it is SO FAR from bedtime (the kids going to bed, that is)... because you just need TWO MINUTES to chill on the sofa without having to provide butler service to anyone.

* H.arvest Festival at the preschool. Oh yeah... this is the one you so generously sign up to assist at the pumpkin painting station, thinking how wonderful it will be to participate in the fun. And, when you arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled volunteer shift... you realize that nobody told you (being the new mom & child at the school)  you should have arrived a half hour prior to that. Why? Well, because you missed the two darling H.alloween songs that all the children sang to the parents! Oh, and when the teachers told all the preschoolers to "go find their parent"... you were the only parent (or set of parents) not there to participate in your child's fun Ha.rvest Festival. Seriously... I think I won the mom of the year award (again!). Thankfully, Giuliana seemed unphased. Granted, I am still reeling with guilt. Ugh!

* Pumpkin Carving! Yay! No... actually, no... it was not fun! Dan chose to do this on his birthday - the day before Halloween... which also happens to be a school night. Oy! It exhausted us and I think we actually only carved three pumpkins that night! We had crying and fighting and drama over not liking the design chosen to be carved, and pumpkin guts everywhere (and I mean EVERY where!), etc. And, to put the exclamation point on how un-fun it was... we were scrambling on H.alloween day to carve the 4 other pumpkins in between dropping kids off and picking them up and watching the Halloween parade, and karate and dance... all prior to trick-or-treating. Jeesh! (Poor Dan!! I felt awful for HIM because his birthday was just pure chaos. Next year... I am hiring a babysitter and we are going out to dinner.... just him & I.)

* Hall.oween preschool party. Yay! I remembered to send Giuliana to school in costume and she loved it! Super fun to see her so excited about another opportunity to wear her costume. And, I was able to see the look on her face when she saw her friends in costume too... so fun! Oh, and I remembered to take home her decorated pumpkin from the Ha.rvest Fe.stival.

* H.alloween costume parades. Extremely important event as your child WILL LOOK for you in the crowd. Oh, and you MUST REMEMBER to dress your child in costume for school that day... and not allow them to bring their weapons (which, for all little boys... this seems to be THE most important/favorite part of their costume). Your little boy will insist it is ok to bring their pirate sword. You will insist it is not ok. Repeat x100. Finally, you win (just before passing out from explanation exhaustion).

* Ha.lloween kindergarten party. SO proud of myself for remembering to bring in the package of 36 string cheese, as assigned by the teachers. Woot! I was feeling a tad bit guilty for not jumping at the chance to volunteer, when asked 458 times... but turns out that on party day, my husband allowed me to go the parade while he watched the two little kids. So, I snuck into the class party...to get a peak before the festivities started... and it looked SO FUN! So, I of course got suckered into helping at one of the activity tables. Oh, and of course it is the art table! So, I actually have to pay attention, clean up, and help the children make ghost skeletons. (Ugh! I mean... ghosts don't even HAVE skeletons! What are they teaching kids these days!). All the while, I am hoping Dan isn't supposed to be jumping on a super important conference call, and instead he has two children pulling on his legs and begging him for drinks and snacks and attention. Oy! I was so stressed while helping out that Dan was going to be so upset with me for being away longer than I had planned... that finally when another mother offered to help at the art table, I passed the ball to her and took off running home!

* Ha.lloween 2nd grade party. I really wish I could have popped in to Gabby's party too... but I couldn't! And, who even knows what time her party started and/or if I was supposed to send her to school with any supplies for the class party. I think I was in the clear. But, ignorance is bliss, right?!

* And finally TRIC.K or T.REATING!! Ok... WHY is Halloween not on a Saturday every year? Why? After school pickup, we had karate, hip hop dance class... then I had to rush children home to feed them and get them in costumes. The kids get SO EXCITED for trick-or-t.reating... and it truly is SO fun. I love watching them go from door to door with such excitement and hearing them say "tri.ck or tre.at". I love being out for an evening walk and seeing the streets so busy with people, and checking out all the costumes. It is just SO FUN! But, in all honesty, I was honestly probably lucky to still be standing by the end of the night! Gabby tuckered out first... saying she was cold and tired of walking. Rocco could have gone another hour at least. Giuliana went strong for the first 40 minutes, and then attempted to revive herself by having Dan hold her between houses. Marco was in my arms and just loved all the people watching.

This year, I got to the point where I was SO EXCITED to just make it through Halloween trick-or-treating and wake up the morning of November 1st knowing I didn't have to do one more Halloween related errand or event. (

Bring on N.ovember!!

A Devil, Pirate, Lion and Monkey

This might sound funny... but I love being able to celebrate Halloween in California again!

A lot of people go all out in decorating their homes w/gigantic spiders, cob webs everywhere, scarecrows, witches, skeletons, etc. It's always so fun to go driving through your neighborhood and see all the "spooky houses" (how my children refer to them).

Since we moved into our new house on Oct 3rd, I was consumed for the first two weeks with unpacking boxes and trying to get organized. So, once again... I ordered costumes in the 11th hour. The reason I say once again is because in 2010, we had moved into the WA house on October 13th... so costumes were finally ordered the week before Halloween on rush delivery (it was SUCH a crazy time!).

Gabby decided to be a devil... so I ordered a cute devil costume. She told me on Halloween day that she wanted to be a scary devil and even seemed a tiny bit upset about her costume. When asking her about why she wanted a scary costume I could tell their was a bit of peer pressure in having the desire to be *spooky*. [Newsflash parents: apparently, second grade is when getting spooked and dressing up scary is all the rage.] The *cute* costume included a devil ear headband, a devil tale, and a devil pitchfork wand.

Rocco decided to be a pirate. This decision was made 20 seconds after his new best pal David proclaimed that HE wanted to be a pirate for Halloween. David is VERY into the pirate thing. And, I adore Rocco's new best pal! I think prior to David saying he wanted to be a pirate... Rocco had talked about being various things including a karate guy, a ninja warrior, a transformer, etc. Nothing ever stuck. The pirate stuck though! We found him a great costume, complete with an eye patch, earring, mustache (which he never wore), and most importantly... the pirate SWORD! Arrrrrrrrr...

In the interest of trying to reuse some of the many costumes we're gathering... I asked Giuliana if she would like to be a purple butterfly, a lion, B.atgirl, princess B.elle... or if there was something else she wanted to be. She immediately grabbed onto the lion theme and ran with it. I had asked a few months prior what she was going to be for Halloween, without any prompting, and she told me a butterfly. She really likes butterflies and she LOVES the color purple. So... I was somewhat surprised that she didn't want to make use of the purple butterfly costume Gabby had used 4 years ago. But, I seriously LOVE that she chose to be the lion! It was a super cute costume given to us by some fabulous LG neighbors/friends. And, Giuliana looked SO ADORABLE in it because her curly hair stuck out like an extension of the lion's mane. SO SUPER CUTE! And, she would roar w/her big eyes, and a goofy laugh. Beyond adorable!

Marco was C.urious G.eorge. It was that or the bat costume, which I think he would have been a little big for. He looked super cute in the monkey costume and it allowed Dan one final opportunity to wear his M.an in the Y.ellow Hat costume. The two of them looked darling together and it was Dan's last costume hurrah! Over the past 6 years, he had partnered with each one of the kids (except Matteo) to be C.urious G.eorge and The M.an in the Ye.llow Hat. Marco freaked when Dan first came out in costume... we actually had to bribe him with a K.itK.at to pose with Dan for photos. Then, he was fine. (candy = worlds best child bribery tool, always)

Milestone: 17 month and 26 days old

While on my run tonight, it hit me that Marco is 17 months, 26 days old today.

To most people, that wouldn't be something worth noting. But, it is to me... because that is one day longer that Matteo lived. His lifespan was a much too short 17 months and 25 days, before tragically dying while sleeping in his crib.

I cross this age with Marco, thankful that he is still alive and hasn't died in his sleep. That may sound incredibly insane and crazy. But, I can't possibly describe how real of a fear this was/is for me every night. For the longest time after Matteo died, I thought Gabby and Rocco were going to stop breathing in their sleep too and I could not sleep at night. Then, the trauma was sort of heightened when Giuliana arrived. I never slept well. Sometimes, I would check on her a dozen times during the night. Same thing with Marco. Now, I feel a little more in the *safe* zone... but also know that is still a concern as children have been known to die in their sleep (for no apparent reason) up to age 3. My confidence as a parent is also slowly and surely building back up. Because let me tell you... your child dies, and their is no greater guilt you could ever feel in your lifetime. Everyone I know has tried to reassure me there is nothing we could have done to change things. God, himself, could tell me that I did nothing wrong and couldn't have prevented in any possible way... but it doesn't change the way I feel. I was his mommy... he should not have died.

I think about him constantly. The kids think/talk about him every day. And, we all have our sad moments and big cries.

It seems that after a child dies, there are many milestones. One might think the milestones are the obvious... like the anniversary of their death, or their birthday. And, while those are significant milestones... some of the not so obvious dates or life events can be the ones to sting and hurt the most.

Not being able to send him off to kindergarten with Rocco this year was immensely painful...even after 4 years have passed. At times, I still wonder (and maybe wish) what trouble the twins would be getting into together these days. I miss that kid so much, every single minute.

I always wonder how different life would be if he were still here with us. I know it would be incredibly different... and I guess that was just a journey our lives were not meant to take.

Life is truly so short. Spend it with the people you love and care about. Don't sweat the small stuff, don't hold grudges or let anger waste away at you. Support your friends and family through the good and bad, and celebrate the people you love...their accomplishments great and small.

I remind myself  constantly that I won't live forever. Ever since Matteo died, I can never really plan anything *forever*, or for example, think that we'll be settled in one home for the rest of our lives. You see... we experienced what I think is the worst kind of life tragedy... and I know all too well that nothing in life is guaranteed, and you just can't expect to be here on this planet for any length of time. You can hope... but there are no guarantees.

So, we all need to try to make every day count! :)

3rd place in my age division @ S.outh L.ake T.ahoe H.alf M.arathon! WOOT!

In August, I decided to sign-up for the South L.ake T.ahoe half m.arathon.

I didn't have the opportunity to do any formal training--mainly because I decided to sign up ~ 6 weeks before the race. And, secondly... I wasn't 100% sure I would actually get to run it because we would potentially be moving into our new home that same weekend. I did however make sure to get a 10 and a 12 mile run in, in the 3 weeks prior to the race. And, I was doing a lot of 3-5.5 mile runs pushing Giuliana and Marco in the jogger.

As luck would have it... we weren't able to move into the new house until October 3rd. So, we made a weekend trip of it and spent a night in the S.outh L.ake area. The kids loved hiking the trails around the lake and we even took them on a gondola ride up H.eavenly so they could see some beautiful views of the lake.

The race was Sunday morning and I did not wake up happy. Thank goodness for the late start time... but even with that buffer... I must have only logged about 5 hours of sleep. Marco had a bit of a cold and was teething... so the poor little guy kept waking up throughout the night crying. Combine that with the fact I forgot to bring my noise machine (I have to sleep to crickets or a fan at night), and well... I did not get a good nights sleep.

So, I told Dan I didn't even want to run. Somehow he cajoled me into getting dressed to race and we went out for breakfast. I was still only half convinced I would run. By the time I got to the starting line... the running bug got the best of me and my mind was getting in the game. I told myself I was just going to go out and enjoy it. Granted a tiny part of me still had the competitive spirit.

Running at 6,800 feet is a challenge. Breathing is a lot harder. My goal for the day was to finish in just under 2:00 (because for my PR time of 1:47, they tell you to add 12-13 minutes to your finish time at this altitude).

I actually felt really great right off the bat (granted, I did have a 24 hour headache from the altitude). I was going to just enjoy the run. And, I did! I even snapped pictures along the way... I think I took a total of 5 photos from my phone, stopping just twice to snap them. I don't normally take pictures during races... but the views of E.merald Bay were too stunning to not snap a few. Dan and the kids were cheering me on from various locations. They would drive up ahead and wait for me to reach them, and then drive off ahead again. I LOVE that! My family IS my motivation!

I think I realized at about 8 miles in that I was having a great run... and might actually make the podium. I saw Dan & the kids up ahead and I called out to him "I think I might actually make the podium, babe!" and Dan said "I know - you're kicking butt!". So, that got me kind of fired up... and I think I suddenly went from *enjoying the race* to *I have to place*.

I was tired in the last 2 miles. Tired as in I started asking myself *why the heck I sign myself up for self torture like this* kind of tired. I was so dead set on making the podium at this point though... so I couldn't slow down.

As I approached the finish line, I saw Dan & the kids. I finished hard. Right away they gave me my medal and a "Top 25 Finisher" jacket, so I was hopeful I made the podium. I found Dan and the kids... and we made our way over to the results board.

I was SO EXCITED to see that I placed 3rd in my age division and 38th overall! I obviously didn't PR (because of the 6,800 ft elevation), but 1:55:25 was respectable for the elevation. They estimate my time would have been in the 1:42-1:43 range at sea level.

So this was the second race within 2 months where I made the podium! Woot! And, this time... I actually got to stand on a podium when receiving my 3rd place award. It was such an awesome, fun and unexpected experience. I was so proud of myself and happy (and shocked!!). It made me want to set an actual goal and do some actual training for a future half marathon.

Dan and Gabby were actually really excited about it and proud of me too... which I obviously loved! Rocco and Giuliana and Marco were more excited about being able to play on the sandy beach while waiting for the award ceremony. Ha!!

“Momma, why we got no house?”

Our living situation is crazy right now. Since moving out of our house we have stayed at 6 different hotels in in 4 different cities, traveled 800 miles, and moved into a temporary apartment while waiting for our home to be completed. Add to that the non-routine of summer, the constant busy work of finishing all the details with the new house, and I find myself sometimes scratching my head wondering what day it is.

I think the kids are even a little confused!

But, they seem to mostly be just confused with our living situation.

The other day as I was walking out of T.arget with all the kids, Giuliana burst out with “Momma…. why we got no house?” (This is just after we moved into the temp apartment.)

I was certain everyone around us was convinced I was homeless and on welfare with 4 kids after that.

And, I notice that Rocco and Giuliana are frequently mixing up and using “hotel” and “apartment” interchangeably.

The house can not be completed soon enough!
